Breastfeeding is the healthiest and most natural way to feed your baby. So, it should come naturally... right? Sometimes... Consider this: Running is a healthy and natural way to exercise but that doesn't make it easy! Training, knowledge of the route, tips, tricks, and preparation is needed for long term success (and blister-free feet!). The same is true for setting yourself up for a comfortable and enjoyable breastfeeding experience where Mama is happy and baby is thriving on your milk.
The class will be presented in 2 parts to ensure that there is enough time to get to everything you need to know and to allow time for Q&A. Another perk of being a part of this hybrid class is the ongoing support of the private class FaceBook group. In the group, I will have resources in the Files sections and all classes will be available to re-watch anytime (even in the middle of the night with your new baby for ‘on-demand’ support).
What you will learn over the course of 2 classes: How hormones control the making and releasing of milk How to prepare for and manage hiccups that can follow interventions during labor/birth/immediate postpartum. The Golden Hour—how to make the most of this precious time. Positioning and how to achieve a "good latch" and why a proper latch is vital to breastfeeding success What to do if breastfeeding hurts How to avoid and manage engorgement Colostrum vs first milk 1st week after birth protocol Baby behaviors—what's normal and what’s cause for concern How to know baby is getting enough milk Foremilk/Hindmilk-- what’s all the fuss about? Pumping, Bottles and Pacifiers... Oh my! The lost art of hand expression- how to do it and why Common challenges will be addressed along with concrete solutions
In addition to the 2 live class sessions I am offering a 1:1 consult with you to address YOUR individual needs. This can be a chance to talk about any previous breastfeeding experiences you may have had and troubleshoot any challenges or barriers to reaching your breastfeeding goals you experienced. I encourage everyone to have a pen and paper handy during the live classes and jot down questions or concerns and bring them to the 1:1. Our 1:1 can be over FaceTime, Google Duo, or over the phone. Whatever fits best for your comfort level.
During your lactation consult I will: Observe a feeding at the breast. Evaluate and assess latch, positioning and baby's suck/swallow/breathe pattern. I will offer suggestions for deeper attachment and positioning while educating you on how to interpret baby's behavior at the breast. I will provide you with a personalized care plan based on your unique circumstances and goals. I will follow up with you the next day to check in on what's working and what's not and help troubleshoot over the phone.
